Falcons Take Fifth Region 8 Title in Six Seasons

The Daytona State men's cross country team took their fifth Region 8 title on Tuesday at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.  The Falcons made history by being the only team to ever perfect score the meet.  The Falcons placed first through sixth in the race and scored 15 points, outpacing all other Regioin 8 teams.  Seven Falcons finished in the top ten of the race, with sophomore Jared Falchook taking the individual title with a time of 26:04.  Four Falcons took the lead early on as Falchook was joined by freshmen Evan Casterline (2nd overall, 26:14) and Joel Jean (3rd overall, 26:23), and sophomore Jayven Garcia (4th overall, 27:08).  "We had a plan to run together through the 5k mark and then push the last 3k.  We wanted to get as many of the All Region slots as possible and I'm happy for the guys to do what they did today."commented Coach Judy Wilson.  Rounding out the Falcon top five was Ivan Marin-Padilla finishing in 5th at 27:10, and taking the last All Region slot for the Falcons was sophmore Brenden Hamilton, finishing in 6th with a time of 27:13, a personal record for him.  Breaking into the top ten of the field was freshman Zeniel Lizardo with a time of 27:36.  Two more Falcon runners hit best times on the FSU course, Jacob Bormet 28:45 placing 16th, and Josue Brito in 29:03 placing 20th.
