Lady Falcons Fighting For Post Season Play

The Lady Falcons defeated the Blue Wave of Florida State College of Jacksonville, Tuesday night to force a tie for third place in the Mid-Florida Conference.  This win means Daytona State College’s post season goals can still be attained.

The Falcon’s overall record moves to 22-10 and 5-4 in the Mid-Florida Conference after Tuesday night’s win.  Additionally, the Falcons are still being recognized in the NJCAA National Top 25 poll for their play this season.  The outcome of today’s (October 23rd) Mid-Florida matches will determine the need and location of a playoff game that would involve Daytona State and Florida State College of Jacksonville next Tuesday.  This playoff match would determine the third and final seed coming out of the Mid-Florida Conference for the FCSAA Regional Tournament.

The Falcons, in just their second season of competition, have had an impressive season thus far, which has been highlighted by a 6th place NJCAA National ranking in September, and a constant present of Falcon players in the national ranking for individual statistical performances.

Caitlin Conner is currently second in the nation in assists per set, recording an impressive 11.11 assists per set.  Conner has 1266 assists on the season and currently holds the record for Daytona State for season and career assists.

Both Alica Kandler and Halle Dotson hav earned their position in the national ranking for their offensive contributions for the Falcons.  Kandler is currently 12thin the nation for both kills per set and total kills.  She has accumulated 3.86 kills per set and 386 total kills on the season.  Dotson holds the 23rd position in total kills with 348 kills and the 41st position for kills per set with 3.07 kills per set.

Defensively, the Falcons are led by Kiara Colson.  Colson, not only leads the Falcons, but has found herself in the top 50 defenders in the NJCAA.  Currently at 34th in total digs, Colson has accumulated 476 digs this season, and also holds the record for season and career digs at Daytona State.

With a win tonight against Lake Sumter, the Falcons could force a playoff game next Tuesday, and hopefully earn their way to the program’s first post season tournament.
