World Series MVP, David Eckstein Motivates Falcon Volleyball

The Lady Falcons were very fortunate to have former Cardinal and World Series Champion, David Eckstein, on campus to share his Major League experiences with the Falcon Women’s Volleyball team.

Eckstein, who played collegiate baseball at the University of Florida, advanced on to the Major Leagues where he won a World Series Championship with the St. Louis Cardinals.  In his run for the championship, Eckstein’s exceptional effort and play earned him the honor of World Series MVP.

Eckstein shared the adversity he faced as a player through college, beginning his journey as a walk on with the Gators.  Through Eckstein’s message, the Lady Falcons were able to witness what it means to relentlessly pursue your goals with passion and commitment.  Eckstein turned his walk on opportunity with the Gators into a chance to exhibit his skills and passion for the game of baseball which translated into his eventual draft pick and advancement to the Major Leagues.

Though Eckstein’s journey was in a different sports arena, the message transcends all sports.  Commitment, dedication, and daily passion in pursuit of goals will lead to success.  Eckstein is a clear depiction of the complete package.  He was an exceptional student at the University of Florida, an amazing person that continues to contribute and participate in multiple charities and foundations, and a remarkable player on the biggest stage.

“It is my hope that our players can be motivated through Eckstein’s words.  The journey is not easy, but when you commit in a big way, you can make the biggest of dreams possible.  Eckstein was inspirational, intriguing, and exceptional.  We are absolutely honored that he made time to visit with our team,” commented Coach Stegall on Eckstein’s recent visit with the Lady Falcons.

Eckstein is just one of the many speakers that Coach Stegall has lined up in her preseason speaker series.  Additional speakers and guests include NAIA National Championship Coach and motivational speaker, Coach Steve Ridder, IPFW’s Athletic Director and former Head Volleyball Coach, Kelley Hartley, former Minor League Baseball player and Head Baseball Coach, Randy Stegall, former IPFW Men’s Volleyball player, All American, and professional player, Craig Collins, and former four-time Olympian and IPFW Men’s Volleyball player, Lloy Ball.

The Lady Falcons are so very fortunate to have such influential and accomplished athletes and coaches accessible to them to provide motivation and insight on what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
