Kandler Commits to VCU

Daytona State College is excited to announce Alica Kandler’s commitment to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).  Kandler, a sophomore for the Lady Falcons, utilized her freshman season to gain respect and interest from college coaches.

Kandler finished her freshman season as one of the top ten offensive players in the nation with 493 kills.  Kandler averaged 3.94 kills per set, and provided an equally valuable and consistent pass for the Lady Falcons.  Kandler’s ball control and aggressive defense was a respected component to her game.

Her solid performance her freshman season caught the eye of many four year colleges, including Coach Jody Rogers at VCU.  Rogers was impressed with Kandler’s overall skillset, as well as, her court sense.  She will provide experience, leadership, and a relentless passion for the game as she joins her Ram teammates in 2016.

Kandler is not only a phenomenal volleyball player, but an equally accomplished student.  She excels in the classroom and will pursue a forensic science major upon graduating from Daytona State College.

“Coach Rogers and the Lady Rams of VCU have landed a phenomenal young lady.  Kandler embodies what Daytona State Volleyball is all about.  She is the complete package; student, person, and player.  We are proud of Kandler’s accomplishments and know that she will be equally successful as she transitions to VCU next fall,” commented Coach Stegall on Kandler’s recent commitment.

Coach Rogers and Coach Stegall have a longstanding connection that goes back to Stegall’s playing days at IPFW.  During Stegall’s tenure with the Mastodons, she had the opportunity to compete against Rogers and her University of Indianapolis squad, before Rogers took her current position at VCU.

Rogers and Stegall are excited for the future Kandler has ahead of her.  However, she still has work to do with her Lady Falcon teammates this season.  Kandler will look to accomplish many personal and team milestones this year within the budding program of Daytona State.
