Lady Falcons Snag All-Conference Nominations

The Lady Falcons wrapped up their season over the weekend with solid play in their first appearance at the NJCAA Region 8 Tournament in Jacksonville, FL. 

Fans had the opportunity to watch some of the best volleyball talent in the state of Florida over the course of a four day span.  These talented young ladies were recognized at the Regional Banquet Thursday night.  The Lady Falcon nominees were in distinguished company alongside their peers and competitors. 

Named to the 2nd Team Mid-Florida Conference were Halle Dotson, Kiara Colson, and Joely Cabrera.  These three ladies were instrumental in the success of the Falcons all season long. 

Dotson finished the season with an impressive 401 kills and 126 digs on the season.  This is Dotson’s second season on the 2nd Team Mid-Florida Conference.  Currently, Dotson ranks 29th in the nation in kills.

Colson, has been the starting libero for the Falcons all season.  Her volleyball instincts and impressive athleticism has allowed Colson to lead Daytona State in every defensive statistical category.  She finished the season with 609 digs, averaging 4.29 digs per set.  Colson is 27th in the nation in total digs and 49th in digs per set.

Cabrera was named to 1st Team Mid-Florida Conference last season, but found herself sidelined in the first half of the season as she worked to bounce back from knee surgery.  When Cabrera made her return, she did it in a big way.  She finished the season with 202 kills, averaging 2.38 kills per set.  Cabrera added 233 digs in the 23 matches she played in this season.

Daytona State was represented by two individuals on the 1st Team Mid-Florida Conference.  Freshman, Alica Kandler and sophomore, Caitlin Conner took home the honor.

Kandler was a constant offensive threat for the Falcons all season.  In addition to recording 493 kills and averaging 3.93 kills per set, Kandler was named FCSAA Player of the Week and NJCAA National Player of the Week this season.  Kandler ranks 9th in the nation in kills and 11th in kills per set.  In addition to being named 1st Team All-Conference, Kandler also earned a position on the FCSAA All Region Team. 

Conner, was named to the 2nd Team Mid-Florida Conference in the 2013 season.  After another impressive season directing the Falcon offense, Conner was recognized on the 1st Team All-Conference.  Conner recorded 1513 assists in her sophomore season alone.  Currently, Conner ranks 2nd in the nation in assists per set, with 11.13 assists.  Additionally, Conner recorded 219 digs on the season.
