Falcons Ranked 6th in the Nation

Lady Falcons Move to 6th in The Nation

The Lady Falcons claimed top billing this week in the FCSAA Regional poll and seized their first national ranking.  Daytona State College is slotted 6th in the nation. With an overall record of 13-1, Daytona State has climbed to the top of the Regional and national rankings. Big wins over nationally ranked College of Central Florida and Hills-borough Community College have led the Falcon in their charge.

The Falcons have been led by impressive play of key individuals along the way. Alica Kandler and Halle Dotson have led Daytona State offensively this season. Kandler currently ranks 29th overall in kills/set with 3.80 and 22nd nationally in kills with 175. Teammate, Dotson, ranks 42nd in kills per set with 3.42 and 31st in kills nationally with 158. The Falcons sophomore setter, Caitlin Conner, has breached the NJCAA Top Ten in assists per set logging an impressive 11.61 per set.

The Falcons continue to achieve at the highest level. After sophomore libero, Kiara Colson claimed FCSAA Defensive Player of the Week in week 1 and Alica Kandler earned National Player of the Week in Week 2, the Falcons went undefeated in the Gulf Coast State College Invitational over the weekend.

Coach Stegall appreciates the recent rankings, but recognizes and respects the competitive conference and region in which they play.  “It is great for the program to make it into the Top 20.  However, our team and coaches are fully aware of the level of play and standard of competition we face every night.  Our region is full of high tier teams, and truly is just a privilege to be ranked in our region, let alone the nation.”

The Falcons swept a very scrappy Polk State College team last night and are gearing up for the Miami-Dade College Invitational this weekend where they will not only see Polk State College again, but nationally ranked Miami-Dade and San Jacinto State College.
