Jonny Ortiz is Named FCSAA Pitcher of the Week for Second Time

Daytona State's, Jonny Ortiz, earned honors as NJCAA Region 8 Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. Ortiz, a sophomore, finished the week 1-0 with an impressive 1.84 ERA in his two appearances during the voting period.
Ortiz threw an impressive two-hit shutout against Florida State College at Jacksonville on March 30th. He struck out 10 on the day, getting the win, 3-0. Three days later, on short rest, Ortiz picked up a no-decision against Mid-Florida Conference opponent Seminole State College. He completed 6 innings of work for the Falcons against Seminole State.
Ortiz finished the week off with 14.2 innings on the bump, allowing just 11 hits and one walk, while striking out 12 batters. Ortiz is 2-5 on the season in 8 appearances for the Falcons. In his 47.2 innings pitched he has accumulated a 3.59 ERA.
The Falcons are currently 19-11 overall with a Mid-Florida Conference record of 8-6. They are back in action today against Mid-Florida Conference opponent, College of Central Florida, in game two of the conference series.
