Kiara Colson Named Defensive Player of the Week
The Daytona State Volleyball team’s season is underway, and the Falcons have currently recorded a 5-1 record in their first six matches. The Falcon’s defensive play has been led by the impressive performance of sophomore libero, Kiara Colson.
In the first five matches for the Falcons, Colson led the region defensively with 74 digs. In addition to her excellent defensive play on the court for Daytona State, Colson provided a consistent, strong serve receive pass for her team allowing for strong offensive efforts by Halle Dotson and Alica Kandler.
In addition to Colson being named Defensive Player of the Week, the Falcons are attracting the attention of the other coaches in the region. The Falcons ranked 5th prior to their opening week of play, rose to 3rd in the region after some big wins this past weekend. These wins included a win over conference opponent, Central Florida, and a strong Palm Beach State College team.
The Falcons gained their fifth win on Tuesday night against Indian River State College, defeating the Pioneers in three straight sets.
The Falcons are back in action Friday. This match up features the second ranked Hawks of Hillsborough Community College against third ranked Daytona State College.
