Lady Falcon, Joely Cabrera, will be shifting her on court roles the next two years as she has committed to play with the University of South Carolina.  As a Gamecock she will be transitioning to a role as a libero.  The past two seasons with the Falcons, Cabrera was an impressive six rotation outside hitter.

Cabrera was a constant offensive threat for the Falcons, but also provided the team with consistency in her serve receive capabilities, as well as, providing the team with a strong defensive presence.

In the 2013 season, Cabrera was elected to the Mid-Florida Conference First Team.  Additionally, she received honors as All Region, finishing her freshman season with 522 kills.

In 2014, Cabrera overcame the adversity of a minor knee surgery in the spring, to finish her sophomore season strong in all categories.  In the second half of the season she recorded 202 kills along with providing 233 digs on the season in her 85 sets of play.  She was named to the Second Team Mid-Florida Conference for her strong play in the second half of the season.

“Cabrera is a competitor.  She has a strong volleyball IQ and a desire to be the best on the court.  She is a gamer.  She is at her best in the heat of battle.  I feel she will thrive at University of South Carolina,” Coach Stegall said regarding Cabrera’s recent commitment to USC.

Cabrera spoke of her recent commitment, “I am excited to have the opportunity to play in the SEC.  Playing for University of South Carolina is a dream come true.  I am extremely grateful that Daytona State has helped me achieve these goals.”

Cabrera and several of her sophomore teammates have made their commitments to further their collegiate academic and playing careers.  Teammate, Caitlin Conner, will be setting for University of Alabama Birmingham next fall.  Additionally, Khiani Kelly and Halle Dotson, have committed to Lander University in South Carolina.  Jazmin Alexander, graduated early, and has already transitioned to her new role at Indiana Tech, where she is studying Biomedical Engineering and playing for the Warriors.
