Falcons Take On Region 8
The Daytona State Women's Cross Country team heads to Tallahassee Friday for the 2024 FCSAA Region 8 Championships to be held at Apalachee Regional Park. The Falcons took the team title in 2023 by besting Pasco Hernando State College by 26 points. Giovanna Meade won the individual title, and the Falcons placed three other runners in the top seven to earn All Region honors. This year's squad has a tight pack, with sophomores Alison Boyle, Francesca Azzollini, Kaitlyn Harding, and Sofia Azzollini leading a young freshman group of Tiffany Cox, Maya Horel, Cheyenne Hulsey, Grace Abbonizio and Ellie Centeno. With ten teams in the field, the Falcons are looking for a top two finish, with an opportunity to bring home the top prize. "We will have to bring our A game to win this year, and anything can happen. This group has worked hard and everyone has avoided injury and sickness so you never know what could happen." commented head coach Judy Wilson. With two hurricanes disrupting the racing schedule, the Falcons have focused on training and have transformed since the beginning of the season. "After our UCF meet at the end of August, we had to really put our heads down and train hard. That is exactly what this group has done." commented Wilson.
