Falcons Take on the Nation

The Daytona State Women's Cross Country team heads to Huntsville, Alabama for the NJCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships to be held Saturday at John Hunt Cross Country Park.  Coming off their Region 8 championship win, ranking them sixth in the latest national poll, the Falcons are primed and ready to run.  "A podium spot (top three teams) for this team would be tremendous and we are just going to focus on everyone running strong and Falcon proud." Coach Judy Wilson commmented.  Top seven Falcons will line up on Saturday at 3:30pm (CST) The Falcons have been lead by Region 8 individual champion Giovana Meade, a sophomore from Oviedo High School, who's high school career was limited to one season of track, running the 400 meters.  Daytona State's second runner is All American Shannon Jones, a mother of four year old Jack and someone who had not run cross country for 18 years prior to last season with the Falcons. Third on the line for the Falcons is Lauren Schaudel who was sidelined last year with an injury and did not run last year past October 1st.  "Lauren's race at the Region 8 meet was amazing and really lead to our win." Wilson said.  The Falcons fourth runner, Molly Burt, who grabbed the last All Region spot will be joined by Brooke Gerrits, Francesca Azzollini, and Jonna-Marie Kirk.  "Brooke and Molly have really been running strong in practice and I think they have gained a lot of confidence. Fran and Jonna have come to cross country from soccer and gymnastics and what they have done this season has been inspiring.  It will be an exciting opportunity for all of them tomorrow." Wilson said.
