Falcons Show Strength at Beach Relay

The Daytona State men's cross country team displayed their team's strength and depth at the fifth annual Beach Relay this past Friday. Led by the sophomore relay pair of Pedro Zapata and Joel Jean, the Falcons took the top six pair spots. With each pair running a total of six miles on the beach, the Falcons' first three teams covered the distance in 30 minutes or less, or five minutes per mile. "It's tough to compare year to year at this event due to the sand conditions, wind, and the heat but it showed us that we have a deep group this year. I was excited to see how some of the freshmen handled this after spending five days of running in Tennessee for our training trip." commented Coach Judy Wilson. Freshmen Nick Pugh had the fastest three mile time with 14:58, or just under 5:00 per mile average. "Four of our freshmen Nathan Henning, Spencer Lawrence Julian Scanlon, and Nik Boone all ran pretty similar times and add much needed depth to the squad." Wilson said. The Falcons are back in action this Friday when they travel to University of Central Florida. The men will run a 5k race starting at 5:00pm.
