Katie Warren leads DSC Falcons to two victories over Lake Sumter

An exceptional performance by Daytona State's first baseman, Katie Warren, led the Falcons to two key wins over the Lake Sumter Lake Hawks Tuesday in Leesburg.

In game one of Tuesday's double header both teams were held scoreless until the fourth inning when Lake Sumter recorded a run off of an RBI double by Kayla Fuller followed by a fielder's choice.

The Falcons responded to the Lake Hawk's charge in the fifth inning, driving in five runs. Four of these five runs came off Warren's bat when she blasted a grand slam for the Falcons. Warren led the offensive charge for the Falcons recording a second homerun Tuesday in the seventh inning. Warren went 2-4 in game one logging five RBIs and two runs scored. Teammate, Shannan Lopez, also homered for the Falcons in the seventh.

Paige Curtis got the win for the Falcons allowing just three runs over five innings. Paige struck out four, walked one, and gave up four hits in her Tuesday outing.

Lake Sumter's hitters went hitless against Daytona's closer, Janet Snipe, in game one. Snipe who currently has a 2.77 ERA, held the Lake Hawks hitless over two innings, allowing no earned runs, walking none and striking out four.

Melissa Webb was charged with the loss for Lake Sumter. Webb allowed eight runs in 6 2/3 innings for the Lake Hawks, which included two walks and three strikeouts in her game one outing.

The Falcons captured a blowout 13-4 win in six innings in game two.

The top of the first saw the Falcons take an early lead, 3-0. The Falcons pushed more runs across when Sierra McMillian and Curtis scored on a two-run single by Warren.

Lake Sumter responded to the early charge by the Falcons in the third, scoring three.

After scoring three runs in the fourth, the Falcons never looked back, scoring on an RBI double by Autumn Vick and a two-run single by Warren. They scored six runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Kate Sims, an RBI single by Anna Tarpley, a passed ball, and a three-run home run by Megan Shiskin. Warren racked up another five RBIs on four hits in game two.

Sydney Elkin got the win for Daytona State in game two. She pitched three shutout innings. Elkin struck out two, walked none and surrendered just three hits on the day.

Tuesday's two wins against Lake Sumter, pushes the Falcons record to an overall record of 22-5.
