Martinez and Florida Teammates Set to Play in World Series Finals

Former Daytona State Lady Falcon, Frankie Martinez, will play in the Women’s College World Series (WCWS) as the University of Florida takes on SEC rival Alabama for the championship.

Martinez will be the second Lady Falcon to compete in the WCWS. Former Falcon pitcher, Katie Murphy, went with the University of Georgia in 2010.

After an injury filled freshman season at Radford University, Martinez turned to Daytona State in hopes rehabbing injuries and getting back to the NCAA Division I level stronger and healthier. Martinez’s hard work and focus paid off when during the team’s scrimmage at University of Florida. Martinez was noticed by the University of Florida coaching staff. Martinez signed with the University of Florida after graduating from Daytona State in 2013, giving her the opportunity to play with one of the top, premier collegiate softball programs in the nation.

Martinez exemplifies Daytona State College’s student-athlete philosophy, and exudes the mission that the college has, which is to develop and enhance the game of young players and place them in high caliber programs upon graduation.

Be sure to cheer on Martinez and her fifth ranked teammates on June 3rd as they take on the second seeded Alabama for the WCWS Championship Finals.
