Daytona State Earns All Conference Accolades

Daytona State College has wrapped up an impressive regular season.  The Falcons finished the season with a 21-7 overall record and a first place finish in the Mid-Florida Conference.

This impressive season has been capped off by large representation of the Falcon players on the Mid-Florida All Conference ballot.  The Falcons were represented well across the board, with 9 players receiving recognition for their contributions this season.

First team honors went to Tanksley Efianayi, Wesley Alcegaire, Markee Williams, and Kendrick Thompson.  The Mid-Florida Conference recognized the well rounded game of Efianayi.  Efianayi, a 6’5” sophomore, has averaged just under 21 points per game this season, shooting 45% from the field.  He added 5.6 rebounds per game and contributed equally in assists and steals each outing. 

Alcegaire, a 6’6” freshman guard, has been a consistent offensive presence all season for the Falcons, averaging 17.1 points per game and shooting nearly 50% from the field during conference play.  He too, contributes in all facets of the Falcon’s play.

Williams, a sophomore guard for the Falcons, is the constant at the point for Daytona State, dishing out 3 assists per game.  He adds 6.6 points per game to the Falcon’s offense, but more importantly provides stability and  control to Daytona State’s offense.

Thompson, the final Falcon on the Mid-Florida Conference First Team, is a freshman guard.  Thompson averages just over 8 points per contest for the Falcons, but has the ability to be a hot hand for Daytona State.  He had two big games in February, scoring a season high 20 points against Sante Fe at the beginning of February.  He then recorded 17 points against College of Central Florida in the pivotal game that determined Mid-Florida Conference at the end of February.

The Second Team All Conference Team was also well represented by Daytona State.  Freshmen, Traevis Graham, Tyquone Greer, and Craig Wilmore assumed the honors.  These three combine to score nearly 20 of the Falcon’s points each game. 

Christian Kennedy and Oscar Cabrera were both recognized on the Honorable Mention Mid-Florida Conference team, as well.

All of these accolades would not be possible without the strong leadership of a coach.  Coach Ryan Ridder in his second season with Daytona State has captured his second Mid-Florida Conference Coach of the Year honors.  His impressive two year combined overall record of 45-13 is remarkable for his young career.  Equally impressive is his 15-3 Mid-Florida Conference combined record, that has earned him his two Mid-Florida Conference titles.

Daytona State will open up Thursday night in the FCSAA Regional Tournament.  The Falcons will have an opportunity to take on the Sharks of Miami-Dade College at 8 PM in Ocala at theFCSAA Tournament host site, College of Central Florida.
