Daytona State makes waves this week. The February 23rd NJCAA Region 8 Softball Coaches’ Poll came in with Daytona State at number 6 this week. The team is currently 14-2.

Kendall Arcia got a nomination for Region 8 Player of the Week for her offensive performance. She Hit .788 on the week reaching safely in seven of nine at bats with three RBI’s.

Jesse Goddard was tabbed Pitcher of the Week for her performances against South FL State and St. Petersburg. The RHP from Surrey, BC, Canada was 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA during the voting period.  Additionally, Goddard was named NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week topping all pitchers nationally for her work on the bump this past week.

Goddard tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout in a 1-0 win vs. South Florida State. Later in the week she allowed only three hits and one run over six innings in her team’s 7-1 victory vs. St. Petersburg. In her 13 innings of work, she allowed six hits, one run, four walks and struck out 13. Goddard added a run to the board for the Lady Falcons hitting a homerun against St. Petersburg as well.

The Falcons will host two double headers next Tuesday and Thursday before starting conference play the following week.
