The Lady Falcons Softball program is closing out the 2014 regular season Thursday night with their final home game of the season against Broward College. The Falcons recorded an impressive 33-14 overall record on the season, which earned them a 7th place position in the Florida Region. At the conclusion of Mid-Florida Conference play, their 14-10 Mid-Florida Conference record is strong enough to notch them a third place position in final conference standings.

Coach Manhart recognizes that her team's season success was a result of solid performances by the entire team throughout the season. In addition to strong team chemistry and play, the Falcons pitching staff is highlighted for their performance on the mound this season, recording an impressive 1.38 ERA, while their opponents logged a 3.72 ERA.

Several individual Falcon players have been identified as key contributors to the Falcon's success this season. Paige Curtis is an intraoral part of Daytona State's accomplishments both in the field and at the plate. Curtis is currently ranked in the top 25 nationally in three categories for saves (2 saves), ERA (1.38 ERA), and wins (17 wins). In addition to her performance on the mound, Curtis is currently ranked third on the Falcon Softball team for batting average, hitting an impressive .307.

Teammate, Mackenzie Chandler, is also being recognized nationally for her speed on the base pads. With 38 stolen bases, Chandler claims the 9th position. Chandler leads the Falcons offensively with a .333 batting average, as well.

The pitching duo of Curtis and Sydney Elkin has been giving opponents trouble all season long. With Curtis ranked at 24th in the NJCAA for ERA and teammate Elkin also making the rankings at 7th (1.02 ERA), it is no wonder the Falcons have bagged 33 wins this season.

The Falcons are eager to begin post season play as they will commence FCSAA Tournament play in the Atlantic District Bracket at noon on May 2nd.
