Kang Finishes 2nd, Team Finishes 11th at Guy Harvey Invitational

October 13, 2015 – Palm Beach Gardens, FL:  Sophomore Ji Sun Kang posted a 2nd place finish at the Guy Harvey Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern University on Tuesday with scores of 73-75.  Kang finished just 3 strokes behind tournament winner Lexie Toth from Rollins College who posted scores of 75-70.   Coach Laura Brown was very happy to see the way Ji Sun Kang finished.  “Ji Sun played very solid over the last two days on a very tough course and I’m very happy for her.  I feel she is very close to winning an event and she showed her toughness by posting two good rounds in difficult conditions.”

The Falcons had a tough tournament, as Claire Becker who is one of their top players had to withdraw due to illness the morning of the first round.   The Falcons ended up finishing in 11th place out of 17 teams while posting rounds of 310-319.  Tournament winner Rollins College shot rounds of 303-298 to capture the Guy Harvey Invitational by 4 strokes over Seminole State College who had rounds of 302-303.

Other finishers for the Falcons were Katie Veale who finished in a tie for 17th with scores of 79-74, Seoyon Kwon who finished in a tie for 67th with scores of 75-89, Elizabeth Jackson who finished in a tie for 62nd with scores of 82-80, Cristine Lee who finished in a tie for 75th with scores of 83-83, and Gillian Alexander who finished in a tie for 91st with scores of 90-87.

Falcon head coach Laura Brown was very happy to see Ji Sun finish so well, but was overall disappointed for her team.  “My players have been playing really well leading up to this event so to have the finish we had was very disappointing for them.  The course played tough and it really played havoc with some of their games.  It didn’t help that Claire was sick and we had to substitute another player in at the last minute.  I think some of them put added pressure on themselves knowing that Claire wasn’t competing and it negatively affected them.  We have some time to re-group for our next event and I’m confident they will be ready to compete and will come out motivated to finish the fall season on a high note.”  The team returns to competition October 25-27 at Lakewood Ranch Country Club in Lakewood Ranch, FL.
