Daytona State Claims All-Conference Honors

Falcons Win Conference and Dominate Conference Awards

Monday, February 22nd the Falcons defeated the Waves of Florida State Jacksonville to claim partial ownership of the 2016 Mid-Florida Conference title with College of Central Florida.  A conference title wasn’t the only honor that Daytona State College would seize in 2016.

The Falcons received personal player recognitions for their hard work and commitment that earned them their stake in the Mid-Florida Conference title.  At the top of the Mid-Florida Conference honors was 1st Team Mid-Florida Conference.  Three Falcons topped out the list for first team, Tyquone Greer, Oscar Cabrera, and Kendrick Thompson.  Each of these players plays a significant role in the offensive output for Daytona State College, leading the way for the Falcons in scoring.

Greer, a sophomore forward for Daytona State, contributes 12.4 points per contest, clearing an impressive 48% of his shots from the field.  He pulls down 8 boards per game, second highest on the Falcon roster behind teammate Nashad Mackey.  In addition to earning honors for all-conference, Greer has been deemed one of the top players in the state, and was named to the All-State team as well.

Teammate, Cabrera, leads the Falcons in total points scored this season with 423 points.  As an athletic guard, Cabrera has the ability to shoot deep, but to also take his defender to the hole off the dribble.  His ability to produce offensively has earned him dual honors on the Mid-Florida Conference 1st Team, as well as, All-State honors.

The final Falcon to be recognized on the first team was sophomore guard, Kendrick Thompson.  Thompson averages 13.5 points per game and leads the Falcons in assists per game with 4.7. 

Four Daytona State players clinched honors on the Mid-Florida Conference second team.  Sophomore, Brandon Maxwell, and freshmen, Alston Jones, Nashad Mackey, and Rashaard Pringle were all recognized for their exceptional contributions this season.

The final award given to the Falcons, went to the Falcon’s general, Ryan Ridder.  Ridder earned the honor of Mid-Florida Conference Coach of the Year for his third straight year. Ridder has produced an impressive resume since joining Daytona State College in 2013.  He has earned three straight Mid-Florida Conference titles finishing the 2015-2016 season with an impressive 24-6 record claiming the number one seed for the Mid-Florida Conference as they head into FCSAA State Tournament play next Wednesday at 8pm, taking on the Eagles of Polk State College.
