Falcon Basketball Programs Seeking Post Season Berth

The Daytona State Men's and Women's programs remain on the quest for the state tournament. With just one week remaining of Mid-Florida Conference play, the men are positioned to not only secure a place in the state tournament with a win on Wednesday, but a conference championship. However, the women will have a little more work to do to attain a berth in the state tournament.

Currently the men's 23-4 overall record and 6-1 Mid-Florida Conference record has positioned them in first in the conference and second overall in the Florida region behind Northwest Florida State (23-4). The Falcons have a two game lead with just two conference games remaining. If the Falcons can procure a win on Wednesday in the 8 pm contest against the Santa Fe Saints, they seal their fate as the Mid-Florida Conference champions and capture a position in the Florida State Tournament.

The men's FCSAA State Tournament is held in Ocala, Florida March 5th-8th. The Mid-Florida Conference regular season champions will receive an automatic bid into the tournament, while the remaining three teams will compete in a playoff that will see the winner advance as the MFC second tournament seed.

The Lady Falcons currently hold the fourth place position in the Mid-Florida Conference. In the women's division, three MFC teams will advance to the FCSAA State Tournament also in Ocala, March 5th-8th.

The Lady Falcons need a win Wednesday night against Mid-Florida Conference front runners, the FSC-J Blue Wave. to stay alive in the hunt for a state tournament berth. Additionally, the Falcons will need Santa Fe to lose against Hillsborough Community College to stay in the race for third place. The Lady Falcons recognize the impact of Wednesday night's game against the Blue Wave and are eager to face the challenge ahead of them as they seek to land one of the three MFC seeds in the state tournament.

Both match ups Wednesday night should be electrifying, as the Falcons will leave everything on the court in quests for championships and tournament berths. The women are in action against Florida State College of Jacksonville at 6pm, followed by the men at 8pm against the Santa Fe Saints at the Daytona State's Lemerand Center.
