Lady Falcons: Who Moved On & Where Are They Now

The Lady Falcon softball program finished their 2014 season on a high. Notching one of the program’s best records (36-16), the Falcons finished third in their conference.  In addition to athletic success, Daytona State produced a 100% graduation rate.  These seven sophomores from the 2014 squad have been missed by Daytona State, but have been greatly valued by the new programs they now represent.

Janet Snipe, a former Daytona State pitcher, finished the 2014 season with a 1.6 ERA.  She is now attending the University of North Florida and is majoring in nursing.  Snipe has worked to perfect her off speed pitch, as well as enhance her spin work.  As a result the Peach Belt Conference now has a tough competitor on the bump to contend with.

Both Jennie Cook and Sierra McMillian are currently part of the Florida A&M softball team in Tallahassee after their two year stint with the Falcons.  McMillian finished her sophomore season hitting .310 with 13 stolen bases. She not only has power behind her swing, but the speed that will help her earn extra bases.

Cook, who is a defensive specialist, finished the sophomore season just short of a perfect fielding average, committing just one error on the season.  The Falcon coaching staff is looking forward to seeing what these two ball players will contribute at the division I level, as well as, the impact they will have on the Rattlers.

Shannon Lopez, who was the Falcons starting catcher the past two years is a current member of the Francis Marion University softball program.   The Falcons were happy to see her develop behind the plate and assume a leadership role in the program.  Lopez’s strength and clutch at bats will surely be impactful at the next level.

Katie Warren moved on to College of Coastal Georgia.  Warren’s hard work on the field and commitment in the classroom will surely be missed.  She finished her sophomore season with a .970 fielding percentage, and .312 batting average.  Additionally, Warren led the Falcon squad in RBI's in 2014.   The Mariners are lucky to have such a well-rounded, developed player in their program this season.

Because of an ongoing injury her sophomore year, Megan Shiskin decided to hang the cleats up and focus on her dream of becoming a veterinarian.  Shiskin was not only a solid player for the Falcons, but an all-star in the classroom.  In her last two semesters with the Falcons, she maintained a 4.0 GPA.  Shiskin is currently at Florida State University pursuing her academic ambitions.

Megan Schiwirtert is the final Falcon sophomore from the 2014 roster.  She too retired her cleats to focus on her academic future.  After leaving Daytona State she transitioned to the University of Florida where she is sure to continue her academic excellence.

As the 2015 season gets underway, the impacts of these former Falcons are not forgotten.  They have forged the way for this program to continue to seek and achieve excellence on the field and in the classroom.
