McMillian and Cook Moving On

Outfielder, Sierra McMillian and first baseman, Jennie Cook, both signed their letters of intent with a NCAA Division I institution for 2014-2015. Both will be headed to Florida A&M University (FAMU) this fall.

As high school seniors, McMillian and Cook both had several options to play ball at the next level. Not wanting to settle for less, they realized the impact an NJCAA softball program, such as Daytona State College, could have on their playing futures. Both were hopeful that Daytona State could open additional doors for them to play at the highest level in their sport. After two successful years at Daytona State, where each earned an Associates of Arts Degree as a Falcon, they can now say they have made it to the top. They will play Division I Softball for FAMU next season.

FAMU were the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champions. They qualified for regionals this spring, just falling short of advancement to the Super Regional. As Rattler’s, McMillian and Cook, will have opportunities to compete against[ the[ best[ in[ opposition.  FAMU will face fierce opponents next spring like Florida State University, who advanced to the 2014 Women’s College World Series (WCWS), and the 2014 WCWS Champions, University of Florida.

McMillian was selected Second Team All Mid-Florida Conference in 2013 and improved her game to make First Team All-Conference in 2014.

Cook received Honorable Mention in 2013, but finished her sophomore season as a member of the 2014 Coaches Achievement Award, Mid-Florida Scholar Athlete, NFCA Academic All-American, and Who’s Who Among American Junior College Students.

Both young ladies exemplify Daytona State College’s student-athlete model, and the mission that the college has to develop the game of young players and place them in high caliber programs upon graduation.
