Falcons Showcase Talents at the Diamond 9 Sun Classic

On Halloween, the Lady Falcon Softball team had an opportunity to travel to Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports to compete in fall season competition. The Diamond 9 Sun Classic Fall Showcase is one of the premier national recruiting events annually.

Daytona State is the first NJCAA team to compete in this tournament known for hosting the most elite travel programs across the United States. College coaches from over 150 NCAA Division I and Division II colleges turned out to scout the talent. This year coaches from the ACC, Big East, BIG 10, PAC 12, SEC, Horizon, Sun Belt, MAAC, MAC, Ivy, and Colonial conferences were represented.

Daytona State won both of their games at the Diamond 9 Tournament. They defeated the Long Island Chargers from New York and the Breakaway Speed from Texas.

The games allowed the players to exhibit their skills to the four year collegiate programs in attendance, including University of Akron, Georgetown, Francis Marion, and University of Missouri.  In addition to demonstrating their game proficiencies, players participated in Diamond 9's skill clinic on opening day, further showcasing their skills and talents to the four year schools in attendance.

The Falcons were led offensively by sophomores, Katie Warren, who hit two homeruns and Sierra McMillan, who also drove one out of the park. The Lady Falcon pitching staff combined with solid team defense to shutout the competition.
