Falcons To Start Mid-Florida Conference Play

Daytona State’s Men’s Basketball team wrapped up their non-conference schedule Saturday with a narrow loss to conference opponent, Hillsborough Community College.

The Falcons commanded a 10 point lead on the Hawks at the half, but soon saw their lead dissipate due to some key defensive breakdowns.  Hillsborough edged out Daytona State in the final minutes defeating the Falcons 56-55.

The Falcons are currently 13-6 overall.  The Falcons look to turn it up this week as they take on their first Mid-Florida Conference opponent, Florida State College of Jacksonville at home, Saturday afternoon at 4pm.

Daytona State will strive to turn things around against a struggling Blue Waves squad who is currently 3-15 on the season.

The Falcons have demonstrated their aptitude for success this season in key wins against 25th ranked Broward College, 16th ranked Shelton State, and preseason ranked Cape Fear Community College.

Tanksley Efianayi, Daytona State’s starting forward and future UCF Knight, has been the steady source of offense for the Falcons, leading the team in points per game.  Currently averaging 20.1 points per game, Efianayi finds himself 28th in the nation in points per game.

Wesley Alcegaire, another Falcon forward, provides an additional steady stream of offense for Daytona State, averaging 16.6 points per game.

The Falcons will look to turn things up as they head into the second half of their season and proceed into the heart of conference play.  It is critical that the Falcons finish either first in the Mid- Florida Conference during regular season conference play or earn a Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Championship in order to secure a post season tournament berth.
