Peter McCarthy First Annual Golf Outing a Success

The Daytona State Men’s Basketball and Women’s Volleyball launched the first annual Peter McCarthy Golf Outing with success Friday, July 31st.  With over 100 golfers, 25 hole sponsors, and an outstanding title sponsor in Mainstreet Bank, Daytona State embraced a beautiful day of community connection and fundraising.

LPGA provided great hospitality for the event on their beautiful links.  Golfers enjoyed 18 holes of golf, a great luncheon, and numerous giveaways donated by supportive community sponsors.  A unique experience was provided to the golfers, as they had an opportunity to shoot a golf ball out of an air gun over 400 yards in attempt to win a week’s vacation at a great holiday resort.  Nearly 50 golfers took the air gun challenge.

The Daytona State Athletic Department is extremely grateful to all the golfers participating in the day’s event.  Additionally, the Falcon Athletics appreciates the generous donation provided by the event’s title sponsor, Mainstreet Bank.  The exceptional contributions by Mainstreet Bank, along with the many  other contributing hole sponsors, and the great group of golfers participating in field made the First Annual Peter McCarthy Golf Outing enjoyable and profitable for athletics and the Peter McCarthy Scholarship.

The event was capped off by Peter McCarthy’s family joining the golfers for lunch.  “I was so pleased that we were able to share the success of the event with Peter’s wonderful family.  I hope they were able to see just how much Peter meant to the Daytona State family, and appreciate how much he is missed by us all,” said Coach Laura Stegall (Women’s Volleyball).

Plans are already in the works for next year’s Peter McCarthy Golf Outing.  “We look to grow and advance the tournament to ensure the future success of the event.  We want to continue to develop community partnerships with our golf participants and sponsors,” commented Coach Ryan Ridder (Men’s Basketball) on the future of the event.

Thanks again to the sponsors, participants, and LPGA for ensuring the success of the Peter McCarthy Golf Outing.
