Sophomore Ji Sun Kang Signs NLI with UCF for Fall 2016

Ji Sun Kang signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with University of Central Florida on Monday.  Kang will start her junior year next fall at UCF.  Kang is currently the #1 ranked NJCAA player in the country and has a 73 scoring average.  Kang had a solid fall season, as she posted two runner-up finishes at the both the 2015 Guy Harvey Invitational and 2015 FIU/Pat Bradley Invitational.

Kang is a very accomplished player and has been a competitive player on the global scale for a couple of years.  She came to Daytona State last fall ranked in the top 125 in the World Amateur Rankings and had wins in both the Southern Cape Open and Boland Championships in South Africa in 2012. In 2013 she was the South African Women’s Amateur Runner-up and the South African Girls Champion.  In her freshman year at DSC, Kang recorded many top finishes including a tie for 4th at the NJCAA National Championship in Mesa, AZ and received 1st Team All-American Honors as a freshman.

Kang will be playing for Coach Emily Marron. “Ji Sun will come to UCF with the experience we will need in our line-up”, Marron said.  “She has had a very successful career at Daytona State thus far, and we see continued improvement almost every time she plays.  Ji Sun is very focused and has her sights on playing professionally after graduation.  We are really excited to have Ji Sun join our team and I know she will be a big part of our success over the next couple of years.”

Coach Laura Brown is very excited for Ji Sun.  “I am so happy for Ji Sun and I know that UCF will be a great fit for her.  UCF has a strong program and they compete in top collegiate events during the year and this will be very good for Ji Sun.  I look forward to seeing her play at the DI level and the experience she will gain from being at UCF will undoubtedly help her as she transitions to the professional ranks after college.”
