April 26, 2016

Daytona State Women’s Softball has wrapped up the regular season finishing 2nd in the Mid-Florida Conference.  The Falcons finished behind the number one team in the country at the NJCAA level, the Lady Patriots of College of Central Florida.

Their overall record on the season was 34-16 with a 15-9 record in Mid-Florida Conference play.  The Falcons recorded a big win against the Central Florida Patriots back on April 5th winning 7-5.

Daytona State’s 2nd place finish in the Mid-Florida Conference earned the Falcons a spot in the FCSAA Regional slated to get underway Friday, April 29th in Vero Beach.  Daytona State will open up against St. Petersburg College in the first round at 1:30 PM.  The FCSAA Regional Tournament format is a double elimination bracket.

In addition to a solid season individual Falcons have been earning accolades for their work both on the field and in the classroom.  Last week at Daytona State’s Convocation honoring Daytona State students, four softball players were recipients of distinguished honors.  Hailey Jackson received the prestigious recognition of Student-Athlete of the Year for softball.  This accolade honored her excellence on the field, as well as, her academic contributions.

In addition to Jackson’s recognition as Softball Student-Athlete of the Year, she received recognition for Who’s Who in College Sports.  In addition to honoring Jackson for Who’s Who, fellow teammates Kaylee Allen, Morgan Hammett and Megan Hammett were recognized in this category as well.

The Falcons would like to tab some additional wins to their record as they transition to postseason play next week.  The FCSAA Regional winner is afforded the opportunity of advancing onto the national tournament.
