The Daytona State Men’s Basketball team takes great pride in its commitment to academic excellence. During the 2013 summer sessions, seven members of the Daytona State men’s basketball team took classes on campus, earning a combined 3.45 GPA. Sophomore, Rashaun Stimage, led the way with a 3.6. Close behind Stimage were Paris Clayton, Will Ransom, and Markee Williams, all accumulating 3.5 grade point averages. Sophomores, Alex Andrews and Dylan Poston, both recorded a 3.33, with Ayinde Sprewell finishing with a strong 2.95.

Coach Ryan Ridder spoke on the Falcons success, “We try to provide our guys with a structure similar to a Division I program. In a typical day, our guys meet for breakfast with our staff at 7:30, and then go to class. We hit the weight room early afternoon followed by team study hall and finally some individual work in the evening. Our guys have a full day. Sure it’s tough some days, but these guys have embraced the commitment necessary to be a champion on the court and in the classroom.”
“As a staff, we provide some great structure and energy to our players, but we couldn’t do it alone. We have some tremendous partners on campus that provide individual tutoring and mentoring to our student-athletes. The DSC family is extremely supportive of us developing the complete Student-Person-Player.”

Returning sophomores, Mark Przystawski and Ashton Fritz, exemplify this development. Mark, an All-Mid-Florida Second Team conference selection, currently holds a 3.78 cumulative GPA. This 6’6” Deland High School product is extremely active in the Daytona State College community. He belongs to the Daytona State Student-Athlete Council, works hard daily in his sport, and continues to shoot for academic perfection. His eyes are set on a 4.0 this fall semester.

Ashton Fritz, an All-Mid-Florida Honorable Mention conference selection from last season, holds a 3.42 cumulative GPA. The Fleming Island product is currently majoring in Business. Like many of his teammates Fritz is committed to improving the team’s academic performance, as well as, the team’s success on the court.

The Daytona State Men’s Basketball team thanks their partners on campus and in the community for their continued support of the Falcons. Together we are building a championship brand both on and off the court. We look forward to the success we will share in this fall semester. Go Falcons.
