Falcons Run Strong at the Beach

Falcons Run Strong at the Beach

The Daytona State women's cross country team took to the beach to start the 2022 season.  Lead by newcomer Shannon Jones, the Falcons got their first look at some of the Region 8 teams that they will face on October 28th in Tallahassee later in the season.  All competing teams paired their runners up for a relay style event.  DSC's top pair was Giovana Meade and Lauren Schaudel, two freshmen with bright futures!  Their time of 26:48 for the four mile distance was a nice surprise for the Falcons.  Meade is a newcomer to running, having only run the 400 meters in her senior year of high school.  Coach Judy Wilson hopes she will convert her speed into a solid 5k time this fall.  Lauren Schaudel ran strong and will help the Falcons have a strong top five this fall.  The Falcon runner with the best two mile total was newcomer Shannon Jones.  Jones took time off of running after graduating high school, but is running strong and it showed with an 11:28 total time for 2 miles.  The team of Alexis Mills and Jonna-Marie Kirk came in at 28:13.  The Falcons will travel to Valdosta, GA for the Border Clash on September 2nd.
