Daytona State Volleyball Ends Regular Season Play 3rd in Citrus Conference and 13th in NJCAA National Poll

Daytona State Volleyball had an impressive season, finishing 3rd in the Citrus Conference and #13 in the NJCAA DI National Poll with a 19-7 overall record and a 10-4 conference record.  Much of the team’s success can be attributed to the outstanding performances of several key players.

  • Emma Testi (Soph.) Middle Blocker: Emma Testi led the team's offense with incredible stats. She recorded an impressive 438 kills, maintaining an excellent hitting percentage of .372. In addition to her offensive prowess, she also contributed on the defensive end with 87 blocks, 92 digs, and 32 aces.
  • Julia Rienks (Soph.) Right Side Hitter: Julia Rienks made her presence felt on the court with 243 kills, 61 blocks, and 59 digs. Her impressive swing and large presence at the net have been indispensable and a major part of the Falcon’s success.
  • Leia Lund (Fresh.) Outside Hitter: Despite being a freshman, Leia Lund played a significant role in the team's offense, recording 187 kills. Her contributions extended to the defensive aspect of the game as well, with 128 digs, 40 aces, and 19 blocks during the 2023 season.
  • Asia Montagnani (Fresh.) Freshman Outside: Freshman Outside, Asia Montagnani has a fast and furious start to the 2023 season, earning All-Tournament Team honors at the UFirst Intermountain Invite in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Upon completion of regular season play, Montagnani recorded 168 kills on the offensive side of the ball and 127 digs, 22 blocks, and 14 serving aces on the defensive end of things.   
  • Mia Mendoza (Soph.) and Courtney McGuire (Fresh.), the Setting Duo: The success of Daytona State's offense was also driven by the outstanding setting skills of sophomore Mia Mendoza and freshman Courtney McGuire. Mendoza recorded 421 assists, while McGuire contributed with 445 assists.  Additionally, the two have been offensive threats to the Falcon’s opponents, providing the Falcons a combined 79 kills. 
  • Arianna Warner (Soph.) Libero: On the defensive side, Arianna Warner led the team with 330 digs and 41 serving aces. Her skills as the libero were pivotal in maintaining a strong defense for the team and providing the ball control needed to run our offense.

Head Coach Laura Booker Anderson stated, "I could not be prouder of where this team finished regular season play. They trusted the process, and it certainly was shown in their growth and success over the past few months!" She continued to say, “This team has accomplished a lot during the regular season, but that means nothing now.  Tournament is a whole new ball game, and we can’t lean on our past successes to carry us through. Its ground zero, a whole new season, and the Florida Region of volleyball is no joke. Anything can happen at tournament so its our job to come as prepared as possible to play our best volleyball.”

In the upcoming postseason, Daytona State Volleyball is set to face #6 seed Hillsborough State College at Suncoast Arena in Ft. Myers, Florida, on Friday, November 3rd at 1 pm for round one of the FCSAA Region 8 tournament.
