Bruna Avila Earns Roberta Stokes Honor

Bruna Avila continues to earn honors as a Falcon Volleyball player.  Fall 2019, Avila was named to the Mid-Florida Conference and FCSAA Region First Team.  She finished the 2019 NJCAA season in the top 10 nationally with 10.24 assists per set.

In addition to her regional accolades, she was named to the shortlist of distinguished athletes named NJCAA All-American.  After graduating early from Daytona State College in December 2019, Avila transitioned to USC Upstate where she began her academic and volleyball journey with the Spartans on a full volleyball scholarship.

Avila's volleyball accomplishments are impressive, but her academic and personal accomplishments are equally notable.  Avila graduated Daytona State College with a 4.0 GPA.  Additionally, she participated in countless volunteer opportunities that included Easter Seals, Food Brings Hope, Habitat for Humanity, Port Orange Family Days, and MeStrong.  Avila gave unselfishly of her time during her two years at Daytona State.  She provided high level servant leadership to her team and the Volusia County community.

Her prowess on the volleyball court, coupled with Avila's commitment to excellence in the classroom and in the community made her a strong candidate for the Roberta Stokes Award.  Avila was amongst an impressive list of distinguished student-athletes from the Florida Region.  Avila's commitment to excellence in all aspects of criteria for this honor, made it possible for her selection for the 2019-2020 Roberta Stokes Award.

"Bruna is an exceptional athlete, but an even more remarkable person.  She truly is one of the kindest young ladies with a tremendous amount of drive and desire to be great.  I am excited to see her honored for her accomplishments and her relentless pursuit of excellence.  I look forward to following her successes at USC Upstate," commented Stegall on Avila's success.
