Thirteen Falcon Women’s Soccer Players Sign Letters of Intent

Daytona Beach, FL – Falcon soccer had one of its most memorable and record-breaking seasons ever in 2023, with the entire sophomore class signing national letters of intent to continue their soccer careers at four-year schools.

Daytona State College Falcon soccer head coach Hope Clark said she is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of these young women’s journeys and for the success that Daytona State women’s soccer has found in her brief time at the helm. 

“These young women have made a personal impact on my life and have left an incredible legacy here at Daytona State,” Clark said. “They have won a lot of games over their two years, made it to the Region 8 finals twice and put us in the national rankings.” “I am beyond proud of this group of young women and look forward to following their careers and being their biggest fans, as I know they will represent Daytona State well.”

Moving on is Dejionee Anderson(Passagefort, Jamaica), Abbey Brosnihan(Fort Pierce, FL), Elisa Cruz (Oviedo, FL), Alexandra Draper (Lutz, FL), Yamileth Fuentes (DeLeon Springs, FL), Arianna Kinsley (Estero, FL), Akari Kishida (Tokyo, Japan), Wakaba Kogure (Tokyo, Japan), Isabella Morey (Niceville, FL), Makenzie Morris (Altamonte Springs, FL), Thea Helen Oberhoff (Bremen, Germany), Jada Samuels (Tampa, FL) and Abby Starkey (Reynoldsburg, OH).

Anderson, a member of Jamaican U15 and U17 National Team, had a terrific career for the Falcons. She earned First-Team All-Region 8 honors in her sophomore year and was named Daytona State College Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Year. She is a two-time member of the FCSAA All-Academic Team. Anderson helped lead the Falcons to a historical 14-2 season and a record 11 shutouts for the program in her sophomore year. The Falcons were ranked #4 Nationally for four straight weeks during the 2023 season. Anderson has signed a National Letter of Intent to Division I, University of Arkansas, which competes in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), to continue her playing and academic career. 

Brosnihan, a transfer from Francis Marion who graduated in December with her AA, signed a National Letter of Intent in the spring to Division II, Lees-McRae College, who competes in the Conference Carolinas, to continue her playing and academic career.

Cruz, has signed a National Letter of Intent to Division II, Christian Brothers University, who competes in the Gulf South Conference, to continue her playing and academic career.

Draper, a member of the Leadership Council both years and a two-time member of the NJCAA All-Academic First-Team and the FCSAA All-Academic Team. Draper started all 31 games of her career and contributed to the historical seasons here at Daytona State. She was the recipient of the Gale L. Lemerand Student-Engagement Award this year for DSC. Draper has signed a National Letter of Intent to Division I, Middle Tennessee State University, which competes in Conference USA, to continue her playing and academic career.

Fuentes, has signed a commitment letter to NAIA, Warner University, who competes in the nationally competitive Sun Conference, to continue her playing and academic career.

Kinsley, a transfer from Alabama A&M, who led the Falcons in goals this season with 12 and earned First-Team All-Region 8 honors in her sophomore year, has signed a National Letter of Intent to Division I, Middle Tennessee State University, which competes in Conference USA, to continue her playing and academic career.

Kishida, a highly decorated Falcon midfielder who was named twice to the NJCAA Region 8 First Team during her career. Kishida was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American Third Team in her sophomore year. She was also named to the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team her freshman year and was a two-time member of the FCSAA All-Academic Team. Kishida scored 15 goals and 18 assists for a total of 48 points in her career as a Falcon. Kishida has signed a National Letter of Intent to Division I, UNC Asheville, who competes in the Big South Conference, to continue her playing and academic career.

Kogure, the most decorated Falcon to date leaves her mark on Daytona State Women’s Soccer. Kogure was most recently inducted into the Daytona State College women’s soccer Hall of Fame. During her sophomore campaign she earned NJCAA first-team All-American. She was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American team, NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Year and NJCAA Region 8 First-team honors. During the 2023 season, Kogure scored 7 goals with 7 assists for 21 points in 16 games. She led the team in shots on goal percentage with .694. She scored three times with two assists in six Region 8 games. Kogure would initially make her mark on the Daytona State women's soccer program in the 2022 season in which she earned NJCAA Region 8 Freshman of the Year, NJCAA Region 8 First-Team and United Soccer Coaches All-South Region. She was also a member of the NJCAA All- Academic team in 2022 and a FCSAA All-Academic award recipient. Kogure has signed a National Letter of Intent to Division I, University of Hawaii, who competes in the Mountain West Conference, to continue her playing and academic career.

Morey, has signed a National Letter of Intent to Division II, Georgia Southwestern University, who competes in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC), to continue her playing and academic career.

Morris, has signed a National Letter of Intent to Division II, University of West Florida, who competes in the Gulf South Conference (GSC), to continue her playing and academic career.

Oberhoff, has signed a National Letter of Intent to Division I, Kent State University, who competes in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), to continue her playing and academic career.

Samuels, has signed a commitment letter to NAIA, Florida Memorial University, who competes in the nationally competitive Sun Conference, to continue her playing and academic career.

Starkey, has signed a commitment letter to Division III, University of Pennsylvania Behrend, a nationally ranked program who competes in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC), to continue her playing and academic career.

Four additional Falcons from the graduating class of 2024 class will be continuing their academic careers at four-year schools. Brianna Crawford (Casselberry, FL) will return to Daytona State to complete her bachelor’s in nursing and will be a member of the nationally competitive Women’s Cross Country program next year. Alexis Harden (Port Orange, FL) graduated with her AA in December and will be attending the University of South Florida. Rowan Duebel (St. Petersburg, FL) graduated with her AA in December and is currently attending the University of South Florida. Jenna Fernandez (Davie, FL) graduated with her AA and will be attending Broward College to complete her bachelor's in health science.
