No. 9 Daytona State Women’s Soccer Moves to 2-0 With Win Over ABAC

Daytona Beach, FL- Another match, another dominating performance for Daytona State women's soccer. On Monday it was a 11-0 command of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The main story was that the Falcons outshot the Fillies 45 to 0, and the goals came from a multitude of players.

"I think it's important that we have the ability to share some opportunities with a large group of young players."  Coach Clark said, "Alejandra Espinosa was stellar on the day contributing four goals and one assist on a variety of opportunities throughout the match." "The game presented new tactical situations that we had not seen during the early season, so it was great to gain experience on how to adapt and create within those scenarios."

In the first half, the Falcons outshot the Fillies 23-0, of their shots thirteen were on frame, while not allowing ABAC to attempt a shot. Thea Oberhoff and Arianna Kinsley led the team in shots with 6 and 5, respectively. Kinsley would open the scoring for the Falcons in the thirteenth minute of play on a breakaway. Alejandra Espinosa would contribute two goals and an assist to Akari Kishida to close out the first half of play for the Falcons.

The second half would prove to be a strong showing for the Falcons as the scoring got started in the 50th minute by a goal from Yamileth Fuentes. Freshman and newcomer, Mia Gonzalez would quickly add her first two goals of the season in the next eight minutes of play. Daytona State would see the next two goals come off penalty kick decisions for handballs committed in the box. USC All-Region and Region 8 Freshman of the Year, Wakaba Kogure would contribute her first goal of the season followed by Espinosa on the decisions. The Falcons closed out the second half scoring off offensive corner kicks, Dejionne Anderson would score her first goal of the season and Espinosa contributed her final goal of the match in the 89th minute.

Three Falcon goalkeepers would see time in the goal. Emma Broch Laursen seeing the start for the Falcons and playing the first half of the match. Makenzie Morris and Isabella Morey would close out the second half for the Falcons.

Daytona State outshot the Fillies 45-0, twenty-eight of which were on goal. The Falcons would finish the match with twelve corner kicks.

Up next, though, the challenge gets tougher on Friday, September 1st, as No. 9 Daytona State faces No. 15 Laramie County Community College for their home opener at 7:00pm.
