Kogure Earns First Team All-American Honor for Women’s Soccer

Daytona Beach, FL- Daytona State College sophomore forward Wakaba Kogure has been named to the 2023 NJCAA Division I All-American Team announced Tuesday.

A first team selection, Kogure is the only Region 8 player to make the top team. Kogure’s first All-American accolade comes after a season in which she helped head coach Hope Clark’s team advance to the finals for the third straight year of the Region 8 tournament. Daytona State finished 14-2 overall and were ranked 4th for four straight weeks in the NJCAA national poll.

In 16 games, Kogure scored 7 goals with 7 assists for 21 points. She led the team in shots on goal percentage with .694. She scored three times with two assists in six Region 8 games. Two goals came in a 3-1-win verses Polk State College.

“Wakaba is an all-around talent,” Daytona State head coach Clark said. “She attacks and defends with the same high intensity and is extremely versatile on the playing field as she served her team in many different positions throughout the season. Not only is she an amazing talent, but she is an incredible student and teammate.”

Previous honors earned by Kogure during her two years as a Falcon include Region 8 Player of the Year this season, Freshman of the Year in 2022, first-team selections both years, USC All-South Region her freshman year. She was also a member of the NJCAA All- Academic team in 2022 and a FCSAA All-Academic award recipient.
