Daytona State wins season opener for the third year in a row, defeats Pasco-Hernando State College 3-0

Daytona Beach, FL - No. 9 DSC women's soccer defeated Pasco-Hernando State College 3-0 on Friday evening in its season opener. For the third year in a row, the Falcons have won their season opener.

"It is always good to get your season opening win under your belt, but even better when it is on the road, head coach, Hope Clark stated. We were able to play a lot of players and see various tactical situations that will help us grow from and implement over the course of the season. I was happy to see the scoring and assists spread out through the team against a particularly good defensive effort from Pasco."

The Falcons scored two goals to close out the first half. Freshman Aiyana Leslie (Winter Garden, FL) scored a beautiful goal early in the first half but was called offsides. Leslie would follow up in the 28th minute with her first goal of her freshman campaign off a cross delivered by sophomore Jada Samuels (Tampa, FL). Sophomore Alejandra Espinosa (Boca Raton, FL) followed up with a long-range goal, assisted by sophomore Wakaba Kogure (Tokyo, Japan), putting DSC ahead 2-0 in the 33rd minute of the match.

Freshman Carsyn Peterson (Greeley, CO) would score just under five minutes into the second half off a pass from sophomore Yamileth Fuentes (DeLeon Springs, FL).

The Falcons outshot the Bobcats 31-0 in the match. Sophomore Arianna Kinsley led the Falcons in shots with four, followed by freshman Thea Oberhoff with three. Newcomer goalkeepers, freshman Emma Broch Laursen (Randers, Denmark) and sophomore Makenzie Morris (Altamonte Springs, FL) would share the first shutout for the Falcons.

Up next, the Falcons will host No. 13 Laramie County Community College for their home opener on Friday, September 1st at 7 p.m. The game will be streaming live.
