#4 Falcons Beat Polk State to Remain Undefeated

Daytona Beach, FL- No. 4 Daytona State women's soccer (12-0-0, 2-0-0 Region 8) brought home three points from their road trip, beating Polk State College (6-3, 0-3 Region 8) to keep their outstanding undefeated season alive.

In their game against the Eagles on Saturday, the Falcons went down up early, with a breakaway goal by Akari Kishida in the 9th minute. The rest of the first half was all Daytona State, but they didn't seem to be able to break through again, amassing six total shots.

The first half would finish 1-0 with the Eagles picking up steam. In the 83rd minute the Eagles would find the back of the net tying the game. With 7:40 left on the clock, the Falcons would shift into a new gear and seal the game winning goal 87th minute. Freshman, Madison Gellner would bring home the game off a strong whipped in cross by Wakaba Kogure Kogure was responsible for both assists in the match, bringing her total to six goals and seven assists on the season.

"I think it's really a testament to our character and our fight as a team, our team has not been in this situation this season where the game has been tied and they have had to seal the game," said Head Coach, Hope Clark "It takes winners to come back from that scoreline with limited time left on the clock."

Freshman goalkeeper, Emma Broch Laursen would pick up her 12th win of the season finishing with 3 saves on the day. 

This was only the second goal scored on the Falcons this season, both coming from the feet of Polk State. The Falcons have yet to let in more than one goal in any match, earning them a 0.17 goal against average.

But their dominance does not stop with the defense: Daytona State's offense is a shot-creating juggernaut, outshooting their opponents in 12 out of 12 games and leading them to 4.58 goals per game average.

Ranked fourth in the nation and unbeaten through 12 games, Daytona State's women's soccer team is on the path to the championship. 

The Falcons will continue its in-conference play with a two-game home and away with Eastern Florida, starting on the road Monday on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. The Falcons will then return home for the final regular season game against Eastern Florida on October 20 at 7 p.m.
