Daytona State College Wins Second Straight Shutout Win

Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona State Women's Soccer team continued their strong start to the season with a 9-0 home victory over USC Lancaster on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons began the game on the front foot, commanding possession in the opening nine minutes and threatening to score on multiple occasions. The Falcons found their first goal just before the 9-minute mark, as Freshman Akari Kishida (Tokyo, Japan) received a beautiful pass from sophomore Shania Harris (Portmore, Jamaica) for the first goal of the match.

The Falcons would continue to put points on the board during the first half with two goals from Sophomore Allison Worley (Melbourne, FL), and a goal each from Wakaba Kogure (Tokyo, Japan), Alexis Harden (Port Orange, FL), Jada Samuels (Tampa, FL) and Emma Andersta (Hammenhog, Sweden).

Harris, Mackenzie Strande (Fleming Island, FL) and Kishida would all find themselves with assists in the first half.

The second half was controlled possession wise by the Falcons, however only two shots would find the back of the net.  Freshman defender Alexandra Draper (Lutz, FL) would start the second half scoring off from 35 yards out beating the Lancer's goalkeeper over the top.  The final goal would come from a beautiful build up of the Tokyo, Japan natives in which Kishida found Kogure on combination play splitting the Lancer center backs to finish the game.

All four Falcon goalkeepers helped earn the shutout with Lucia Guemes (Ampuero, Spain) leading the Falcons.  Freshman goalkeepers Abby Starkey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio), Isabella Morey (Niceville, FL) and Meghan Peak (Tampa, FL) all contributed to the team shutout for the Falcons.

The Falcons had 38 shots compared to USC Lancaster 3 and 22 shots on goal compared to 2.

The #20 Falcons are now 3-0-1 on the season while USC Lancaster is 1-2-0

The Falcons are back in action Saturday, September 10th at home as they take on Pasco-Hernando State College at 1:00pm.
