No. 13 Daytona State Women’s Soccer Draw with No. 6 Monroe College

Daytona Beach, FL – The #13 Daytona State College battled #6 Monroe College to a 1-1 draw Thursday evening at home.  The result marks the second time the Falcons have settled for a tie with a nationally ranked opponent this season after 90 minutes of action.

The Falcons opened the scoring in the second half when sophomore Shania Harris beat two defenders scoring from about 25 yards out from a ball played to her by sophomore Allison Worley

The Mustangs managed to level the score in the 85th minute.  The Falcons committed a foul inside the penalty area, resulting in the Mustangs penalty kick that tied the game.

Daytona State and Monroe College continued to battle over the next two overtime periods, but neither was able to find the go-ahead goal.

The game was a competitive one as both teams forced the goalkeepers to make multiple saves.  Monroe College slightly edged DSC in shots on goal with 7 in comparison to 6 for the Falcons.  Sophomore goalkeeper, Lucia Guemes had 6 saves in the 110:00 minutes. 

The Falcons will rest this week until their match-up at No. 1 Eastern Florida on Saturday, October 1st for the first Region 8 game of the season.
