The women's soccer team defeated the Polk State Eagles last night in a hard-fought battle in the Region 8 conference semi-final in Daytona Beach. Freshman, Elena Diaz (Madrid, Spain) scored the game-winner in the 20th minute when she received a ball from Megan Sheehan (Sophomore, Cork, Ireland) just outside of the 18-yard box. This marks Diaz's 3rd goal of the season. She currently leads the team in total points, with 3 goals, 1 assist. Goalkeeper Cassandra Bodi (Sophomore, Melbourne, FL) had a standout performance last night, making 6 saves, to keep the edge over Polk State and mark her third shutout. Aside from Bodi, Sophomores Courtney Magnan (Wesley Chapel, FL) and Marisa Lee (Fort Pierce, FL) anchored the defensive line for the full 90-minutes last night. "Courtney and Marisa have grown a tremendous amount together over the last 6 games, giving us consistent and calm performances, which is what you want out of those positions," said Coach Bart Sasnett.

"This was a huge team effort tonight and I'm really proud of the team for their commitment to progress and improve every single game," said coach Maggie Manville. "Because we had an extremely limited number of games, our eyes were always set on the conference tournament. Everyone has new life going into the tournament and I'm excited for the team to have the opportunity to take on Eastern Saturday night."

The Falcons take on Eastern Florida State College at 6pm on Saturday, May 15th at the Falcon Stadium.
