Women's Golf Team Places 2nd at NJCAA District 5 Championship
The Daytona State College women's golf team placed second at the NJCAA District 5 Championship at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida.
 
The Falcons shot a 36-hole 601 team score by posting rounds of 293 and 308 and finishing behind the District 5 Champions Seminole State College who shot 590 (290 and 300). Good news is that the top two District 5 finishers are automatic qualifiers for the upcoming NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament May 9-12 at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford, Florida.
 
Eastern Florida State College who hosted the District Championship Tournament shot a 36-hole 645 to place third overall and will await the NJCAA at-large bid selections to determine whether their season is extended through mid-May with one of the available at-large bids. The Titans currently ranked in the top-6 nationally should be in a solid position to earn an at-large bid opportunity.
 
Monday's opening round was like a Chamber of Commerce visitors day at Duran Golf Club with beautiful conditions and temperature in the mid-80's. However, the weather changed for Tuesday's final round as the temperature dipped into the upper 60's to low 70's with steady windy conditions in the 20-25 mph range making playing conditions challenging for all competitors. 
 
For the Falcons, Briana Gabe finished 2nd overall at 2 over for the tournament with impressive rounds of 71 and 75. Teammates Madison Tenore finished tied for 4th at 8 over par, and Ellie Docherty finished 6th overall. Rounding out the Falcon finishers were Alexis Reilly and Ashleigh Angelo for both finished tied for 7th place at 11 over par.  All five of the Falcon golfers finished in the top-7 finishers for the qualifying tournament pushing the Falcon team through to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament. 
 
 
Seminole State's Minori Nagano finished as the tournament medalist with two rounds of under par golf with rounds of 68 and 69 to finish with a 7-under 137 for the tournament.
