Daytona Beach, FL. – Daytona State (10-4) received several impactful performances throughout the lineup, including a game-high 17 points from sophomore Tanyia Gordon in Wednesday's victory vs. St. Petersburg College 64-48. The Falcons' forward was 7-for-16 from the floor with five rebounds, three assists, and eight steals to lead the Falcons.
"I was very pleased with how our team as a whole locked in and accepted the challenge of our defensive goals for the game, when shots weren't falling and the offense was stagnant we found a way to get stops." Head Coach Tron Griffin stated.
The Falcons turned up the defensive pressure early in the second quarter and went on a 14-0 run that led to a 9-point halftime lead. Daytona State scored 25 points for the game off of the Titans' 32 turnovers. Post presence inside led by Freshman Center Kierra Wheeler scoring 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting and eight rebounds while Sophomore Shayla Bouie added 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal.
The Falcons travel to Eastern Florida State College next Wednesday, February 2nd at 5:30 p.m. and return home on Saturday, February 5th, vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville at 2:00 p.m.
