Hampered by Slow Start, Falcons go down to Hillsborough

Tampa, FL (November 8, 2019) Dismal shooting early on saw the Falcons get behind early against the Hawks of Hillsborough Community College on Friday, November 8. Daytona State spent the final 30 minutes trying to overcome a 22-8 first quarter deficit. The Falcons were able to cut the lead down to four points late in the 4th quarter with 4:23 remaining, however they would not get closer. The game ended with a final score of 75-70, giving the Falcons their first loss of the 2019-20 season.

Daytona was led in scoring by Janay Turner with 21 and Paris Williams with 19. Freshman Ja'Nia Thompson broke into double figures for the first time in her collegiate career. She would finish with 10 points and led the Falcons with 9 rebounds. Other Falcons in the scoring column included Cherelle Washington and Tailyr Manhertz, who both finished with seven points apiece. Kianni Westbrook and Sarah Placide both grabbed seven rebounds, while Manhertz pulled down six. Westbrook also had a game high 3 blocks. 

The Falcons were held to just 33% shooting for the game and shot 21% from distance. 

Hillsborough was led in scoring by Alisa Marlow, with 23 points. Abby Ouellette paced the Hawks on the glass with 8 boards, to go along with 9 points.
