Softball Improves to 5-1

Daytona Beach, FL  – Falcons Softball improved to 5-1 with a sweep in Tuesday night's double header against Pasco-Hernando State College, 4-2 and 5-3.

Allizaya Talamantes earned her third win in the circle, going the distance while striking out five batters.  Kiera Mainolfi started the scoring for DSC when she singled to right in the first inning to drive home Brianna Weimer who had singled and stole second.  Sky Ramos then doubled in Mainolfi to give Daytona State a 2-0 lead.  PHSC scratched a run back in second, cutting the lead 2-1.  Morgan Davis hammered a two-run double off the top of the fence in the fourth inning to push the lead 4-1.  That would be all the run support Talamantes would need as she guided the Falcons to a 4-2 decision.

Madison Mitzel would pick up her second win of the season in the nightcap.  Mitzel would also go the distance, striking out five.  PHSC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning with DSC cutting the lead 2-1 in the fourth with a clutch double from Gissel Morales to score Sky Ramos.  Daytona State gained the lead in the fifth, which started when a sacrifice bunt from Brianna Weimer turned into a throwing error down the right field line that scored Logan RingelMorgan Davis would then single and Kiera Mainolfi bunted the runners over to second a third.  Sky Ramos delivered a sacrifice fly to score Weimer and give DSC the lead.  Kadrianna Grinstead provided a single to right to plate Mainolfi and give the home team a 4-2 advantage.  After PHSC capitalized on an error in the top of the sixth, the score became 4-3.  In the bottom of the sixth, Cristina Penney singled to start the inning and Logan Ringel tripled her home to extend the lead 5-3.  Mitzel would have a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to complete the sweep. 

The Falcons are at home on Thursday, February 15th versus Florida Gateway College at 2&4 p.m.
