Falcons Softball Ends Week with Three More Wins

Daytona Beach, FL

Daytona State softball earned a split with Polk State on Thursday and got a sweep over St. Johns River State College on Saturday to improve to 8-4 on the season

Polk State

In game one, the Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring in the first and third innings.  Polk State would cut the lead in half with a run in the sixth and would tie the game on a throwing error in the seventh.  Another Falcons error led to Polk State taking a 3-2 lead in the 8th inning but DSC would respond with a bases loaded single by Jaelyn Lockhart to drive in the game tying run and Sky Ramos took a hit by pitch to plate the game winning run, giving Daytona a 4-3 win.

In game two, it was all Polk State.  DSC only mustered two hits, losing 6-0 in the nighcap.

St. Johns River State

Mariah Rivera and Madison Mitzel would both throw complete game gems to earn the sweep 4-1 and 2-0.  Most of the offense in game one came from three first inning runs.  Ramos drew a walk, Amayia Hernandez singled, Jael Wilde doubled home a run, and Jaelyn Lockhart knocked in two more with a single.  In the third, Lockhart again single home another runner after SJRSC scored their only run in the top half of the inning.

Game two saw only two hits for DSC but it was enough for Mitzel in the circle, throwing a shut-out.  Kiley Lucas scored on a past ball in the first inning and Amayia Hernandez tripled home Leighton Strickland who had walked to drive in the game only runs.

Rivera saw her streak of 22 consecutive scoreless innings come to an end in her 4-1 win over SJRSC.

Daytona State will take on South Florida State College in Avon Park, FL on Tuesday
