Falcons Finish Strong at FSU Invitational

The men's cross country team competed well in the 2023 FSU Invitational on Friday.  Finishing 12th out of 31 teams, the Falcons were the first junior college program in the field, scoring 325 points, well ahead of Eastern Florida with 584 points.  The Falcons had their first five runners finish in front of any other Region 8 runner.   The University of Florida was the meet champion, followed by Embry Riddle.  The Falcons topped in-state NCAA Div 1 and 2 programs such as West Florida, Flagler, Palm Beach Atlantic, Jacksonville, Florida Atlantic and FIU.  Freshman Evan Casterline, competing in only his second season ever in the sport of cross country, was Daytona State's first runner across the line in 25:33 for the 8,000 meter distance, a personal record for him.  Finishing only 30 seconds behind Casterline was Jared Falchook in 26:03.  Rounding out the top five was freshman Isaac Morrison (26:30), freshman Joel Jean (26:40), and sophomore Julian Pomales (26:42). The Falcons had a 69 second spread.

The Flacons now head into championship season in a strong position and will focus on training hard and staying healthy.  Next up for the Falcons is the SSC Preview at Holloway Park in Lakeland, FL on October 13th.
