Falcons put 4 past USC-Lancaster in home opener

In the season home opener on Friday, September 2, the Daytona State College Men's Soccer Team beat USC-Lancaster. Improving their record to 2-0, The Falcons recorded their first shutout of the season in an impressive 4-0 victory. "Friday's win with multiple goal scorers and full control of the tempo of the game shows how solid this team can be. More work to do but it's a solid start," Coach Joe Avallone.

In a tight first half where goals were hard to come by, Carlos Zambrano (Miami, FL) opened the scoring in the 41st minute of the first half with a goal set up by sophomore captain, Kevin Kelly (Dublin, Ireland). Just two minutes later, Lisandro Molina (Mendoza, Argentina) scored his first goal of the year with a direct free-kick.

In the second half of the competition, the Falcons outshot the Lancers 14 to 3. Freshmen Emmanuel Denis (Paris, France) scored his first goal in the Daytona State jersey. Coming off a high press deep in Lancer's territory, Sol Bercu (Ramat Gan, Israel) intercepts a pass and finds Emmanuel Denis who rockets one into the top right corner from a left-footed strike. Kevin Kelly (two assists) set up Lisandro Molina for his second goal of the game in the 70th minute of the match to make it 4-0. Molina from 25 yards out, strikes a ball that hits off the crossbar and finds the back of the net.

"That was a great way to open the season at home. Before the game, we spoke about the mindset for the full 90 minutes of the match and the boys came out and executed the game plan perfectly. The speed at which we played and the amount of possession and chances we created is how we want to play," Coach Lopez.

The #5 ranked Falcons will play on Friday against Harcum at 12 pm and again on Saturday against Andrew College at 3 pm.
