#4 Men’s Soccer Goes Undefeated in South Carolina

The #4 Daytona State Falcons men's soccer team improved their record to 6-1 this past weekend on the road against opponents Patrick Henry Community College and USC-Lancaster. Coming home with 6 goals in two games, Daytona had 5 different goal scorers on the weekend. This brings the total tally of goals on the year to 28 in 7 games.

Daytona's first match came on Saturday, September 17th versus Patrick Henry from Virginia who is ranked #15 in NJCAA D2. The Falcons were in control of the match keeping most of the possession and creating a lot of chances. In the 42nd minute of the first half, Sophomore goalkeeper and captain, Will Diaz, saved Daytona from going down with a massive save from a penalty kick.

Soon after the second half started, the Falcons got on the score sheet after a cross from Dalton Fleshood found the extended right foot of Christian Cordeiro to find the back of the net. The game was far from over, the Patriots were looking to get a goal of their own. Daytona was able to neutralize the threat with solid defending from Steven Fikula and Sam Nicholson to keep the shutout on the road.

After a short turnaround, Daytona hit the field again the next day versus the Lancers and were up for the challenge. Not giving up a single shot in the first half, the Falcons were firing on all cylinders and put 4 goals past the Lancers. 10 minutes into the contest, Christian Cordeiro got his second goal on the weekend after Emmanuel Denis set him up on top of the 18-yard box. Two minutes later, captain Dalton Fleshood scored from a diving header after a double assist from Japanese duo Taichi Inoue and Yuta Tokuhisa. The scoring continued after Freshmen, Sam Nicholson, scored off a stunning bicycle kick set up by Steven Fikula. Elkin Barbosa finished the first half with a first-time strike created by a quick counter press started by Christian Cordeiro. Sophomore captain, Kevin Kelly, set up Takuto Nishide for an open finish in the 68th minute of the contest to wrap up the scoring for the Falcons. The Lancers did not hold back and got one back late in the game to end the score at 5-1.

The Falcons next opponent will be Thomas University at home on Tuesday, September, 20th at 2PM.
