#7 Daytona State Top #9 LSU-E

Your number 7 ranked Daytona State Falcons Men's Soccer Team have finally had their long-awaited season opener! Having had to cancel their first game of the season due to inclement weather, Men's Soccer traveled to Panama City, Florida where they faced number 9 LSU Eunice.

Freshmen midfielder Carlos Zambrano opened the scoring in the 7th minute of the game with a right footed volley created by Kevin Kelly's hard work, winning the ball back in the opposition's half. Adding to his first half assist, Captain Kevin Kelly scored two PKs in the opening half of the fixture. Takuto Nishide played an influential role in the Falcons success in the first half. He was fouled in the box, creating the opportunity for Kelly's second PK of the game. Only moments before, Nishide picked the ball up in midfield and dribble into the opponent's box to grab himself a goal.

Sophomore transfer Christian Cordeiro scored his first goal as a Falcon in the first minute of the second half from a nice switch of play created by Emmanuel Denis. The match was far from over as Will Diaz had a total of 9 saves on the day, 6 of which were in the second half. The Falcons were unable to keep the clean sheet, as LSU Eunice kept the pressure on the Falcons scoring from a freekick in the 86th minute of the match.

Coach Bart after the game, "What a way to start the season!  Our guys have worked very hard in all facets of the game to get prepared for this match.  The hard work has paid off.  This gives us some positive momentum going into our home opener this Friday."

The Falcons next match will be this Friday, September 2nd at home against USC Lancaster at 7:30pm.
