Daytona State Men’s Soccer Goes 2-0 on the Weekend

The Daytona State Men’s Soccer Team (4-0-0), ranked 4th in the nation, had their first weekend playing back-to-back games at home. The Falcon's first match was on Friday, September 9th against visitors Harcum College (Pennsylvania). In a very even contest, the match went into halftime 0-0 with the Falcons outshooting their opponent 7-5. The only goal of the game came in the 85th minute of the contest when Orlando native, Trey Matschner, was taken down in the 18-yard box to earn the Falcons a penalty kick. Sophomore from Tokyo, Japan, Taichi Inoue, converted the penalty kick that broke the deadlock and ultimately won the game for the Falcons.

The second match of the weekend came less than 24 hours later on Saturday, September 10th, versus Andrew College. Daytona was able to get 21 of their 31-man roster into the match. Going into halftime up 6-0, the second half was cut short with 15 minutes left on the clock due to lightning with the final result 11-0.

“It is never easy to play two games in 24 hours, but the depth within our squad is one of our strongest assets. We were able to get a lot of guys valuable minutes this weekend to continue to grow as a program moving forward into the middle and latter stages of the season,” Coach Sasnett.

#4 ranked Daytona State starts their 3-game series versus Region 8 rivals, #20 Eastern Florida, on Wednesday, September 14, in Melbourne Florida.
