9th Ranked Daytona State Defeated Coastal Rival Eastern Florida 3-0

The Daytona men’s soccer team defeated Region 8 rival Eastern State 3-0 on Saturday, 10/16. It was an anticipated matchup between the two nationally ranked programs. The Falcons outshot the visiting Titans 12-6 and sophomore returning all-American keeper Will Diaz is credited with the shut out with 6 saves.

Vander Rocha would get on the scoreboard early in the 5th minute from a threaded pass from Freshman Tomas Yriarte. Just minute’s later a corner kick from Rocha, 6’3 London native Prince Nwabudike would score with a header. The Falcon’s would go into halftime up 2-0. The second half was a tug of war as both teams had opportunities to score. But in the 81st minute it was team leading scorer (16) Yutaro Tsukada who found the net from a cross from Vander Rocha (Rocha is Coach Bart’s Man of the Match).

Rocha on the win, “I really enjoyed the match and the adrenaline our team had. We started very strong and focused. I’m very happy to score and assist my teammates.”

Coach Sasnett on the win, “I’m so proud of this group, this was a very difficult match. I thought our guys showed great composure and outstanding leadership. That win united us like no other!”

Daytona State is now 10-1-1 on the season. The Falcon’s are on a 6-game win streak and have outscored their last 6 opponents 28-4. The men will take the field Wednesday, 10/20 at Eastern Florida State 6:00 PM. If the Falcon’s win they close out the 3 games series and claim Region 8 Championship. If the Falcons were to lose or tie, the next match would be hosted by Daytona State on 10/27 at 6:00PM.
